Today I Learned . . . Passion Matters

If you have to do something, you might as well do it with passion!

Life is full of some pretty lousy activities that we do on a regular basis.  Some things as simple as cooking a meal or paying your bills become chores that we don’t even think about, or want to think about, but we do them every single day.

These things can get boring really quickly, so much so that we come to dread even thinking about them let alone doing them.

But we have to do them anyway, right?  And because we are responsible people we do them just to get them done.

How about this?

I was told quite often as a child that anything worth doing is worth doing right.  That was good advice.  I choose to take that lesson one step further.

I’ve learned that anything worth doing is not only worth doing right, but worth doing with as much passion as you can muster.

Passion can change the most mundane activity into the most fun thing in your entire day:

Cooking a meal?  Crank up the music and turn it into a dance.

Paying your bills?  Get online and think of it as a fancy new video game.  Knock those bad boys right out of cyberspace!

Spending time with your kids?  Make them laugh and smile, be silly and, hey, a little dance with them wouldn’t be a bad thing either!  I guarantee you’ll remember it, and so will they.

The lesson

Today I learned that if you are participating in life, make it memorable.  Our trip on this rock called Earth is relatively short, so make the best of it.

Do what you have to do, but use some passion along the way.

And most importantly, keep in mind that what you do it is not just impacting you.  Everything you do has an impact on those around you, especially the next generation.  They are watching closely, and they learn more from what we do than what we say.

We have a huge responsibility to set a good example for them, whether we like it or not.

So stand up right now and do your favorite dance!  You’ll have a hard time not smiling if you do!
